My Everything

You are God
I am me
You are big
I am small
You are strong
I am weak

I am in the spirit
You are the spirit
I am in the light
You are the light
I am in the music
You are the music

I am not safe
You are my shelter
I am hungry
You are my bread
I am alone
You console me

I make mistakes
You forgive me
I stumble
You pick me up
I turn away
You follow me

I am your child
You are my everything

Good stuff! I like the simplicity - it communicates effectively.

I've been meditating lately on the all-encompassing, nourishing presence of the divine and God's simultaneous transcendence & immanence. This poem expresses a lot of what I've been thinking/feeling, especially:

I am in the spirit
You are the spirit
I am in the light
You are the light
I am in the music
You are the music

It's truly liberating to realize & remain aware of the reality that our finite minds, concepts & images can never encapsulate God, but that rather God is a mystery that, if we remain open and awake, seduces us into an ever-deeper pursuit, like a lover rather than an object to collect information about.

Maybe this is why "Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed"? (Luke 5.16)

This reminds me of one of Rob Bell's NOOMAs, "Rhythm". Here's a link if you haven't seen it (bear with the subtitles!)

Hi John, no I hadn't seen that video before and I really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.

I think what you said in your comment is beautiful and true. God has definitely seduced me into an ever-deeper pursuit.

Thank you Sherry! <3
